Power Break — Power Evaluation
Final Score: 25 ± 5 · Confidence: Medium
- Intrinsic: 27 · Deck: 31 · Meta: provisional
- Primary role: Utility · Secondary: Recovery/Recursion
Why it scores here
Power Break scores low primarily because of its severe activation gate — it is a dead trap unless Power Tool Dragon is already face-up on the field, a boss-level Synchro that requires its own multi-card setup. Within a dedicated equip-focused shell the equip recycling has genuine synergy with Power Tool Dragon's search effect, which earns modest resource_economy credit, but the card contributes no opponent interaction, no negation, and no board-building. The maximum 1500 burn damage is largely irrelevant as a win condition. ATK and DEF did not factor into the score; the card is a Trap and has neither.
Axis scores
| Axis | Score | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| Accessibility | 20 | Activation demands a face-up Power Tool Dragon, a Synchro monster that itself requires multiple cards to summon, making this trap frequently dead until the board is already established (verified from card text). |
| Combo & Conversion | 15 | Zero combo appearances in the evidence; the effect returns Equip Cards to the Deck and deals burn — neither builds a board nor extends a combo line (inference from card text, no combo data). |
| Resource Economy | 40 | Returning up to 3 Equip Cards to the Deck lets Power Tool Dragon re-search them on future turns, producing a modest resource loop, though spending a trap slot makes it only approximately break-even (inferred from card text plus Power Tool Dragon interaction). |
| Effect & Interaction | 5 | The entire effect is self-directed — burn damage and equip recycling — with zero disruption, negation, or removal aimed at the opponent (verified from card text). |
| Material Utility | 5 | As a Normal Trap Card, Power Break cannot function as Synchro, XYZ, or Link material and offers no body value in any zone (verified from card type). |
| Resilience & Flexibility | 15 | A single removal of Power Tool Dragon before or after the trap is set makes this card unplayable; it has no secondary use across zones or turns (verified from card text). |
| Deck-Building Efficiency | 30 | All 16 sampled decks are equip-synchro shells centred on Power Tool Dragon; the card has no splash potential outside that narrow home and occupies a spell/trap zone that could hold disruption (observed from decks_evidence). |
Calculation
Weight profile: Utility (default role). Intrinsic ≈ 27, Deck ≈ 31, Meta = provisional. Modifiers: Severe activation requirement (-4). Final formula: 0.40*Intrinsic + 0.60*Deck
Strengths
- Equip Card recycling synergizes with Power Tool Dragon's search effect, enabling re-use of key equips
- Consistent inclusion across all 16 sampled equip-synchro decks at 1–2 copies
- Can recover up to 3 Equip Cards in a single activation, providing multi-equip refuel
Weaknesses
- Completely dead unless Power Tool Dragon is face-up — one of the strictest activation gates in the game
- No opponent interaction: no negation, no removal, no disruption
- Maximum 1500 burn damage is rarely relevant as a standalone win condition
- Occupies a trap zone that could otherwise hold meaningful disruption
Counters / choke points
- Removing or negating Power Tool Dragon before activation makes this card unplayable
- Spell/Trap removal (Mystical Space Typhoon, Twin Twisters, Cosmic Cyclone) destroys it before it can resolve
- Necrovalley prevents targeting Equip Cards in the Graveyard, sharply limiting the recovery
Best use
Equip Card recycler and incidental burn source in Power Tool Dragon-based decks. Decks: Power Tool Dragon, Morphtronic, Junk Synchro (equip variant). Suggested copies: 1.
Evidence & gaps
- Verified: Activation requires face-up Power Tool Dragon (card text); Returns up to 3 Equip Cards from field or GY to Deck (card text); Inflicts 500 damage per card returned, maximum 1500 total (card text); Normal Trap Card — not a hand trap, not a floodgate (role_hint_tags + frame_type)
- Observed: Present in all 16 sampled decks in the main deck at 1–2 copies (decks_evidence); 100% co-appearance with Power Tool Dragon, Double Tool C&D, United We Stand, and Morphtronic core in the deck sample (decks_evidence)
- Inferred: Equip recycling is the primary utility — it restocks the deck for Power Tool Dragon to search again on future turns; The burn damage is a secondary bonus rather than the inclusion rationale; All four archetypes in the sample are equip-synchro shells that centrally feature Power Tool Dragon
- Data gaps: no combos supplied — combo conversion is text-only inference no guides supplied no banlist token — assumed 3 copies (unlimited) no usage statistics (StatisticsCard) — archetype inclusion % inferred from deck sample only unclear how reliably Power Tool Dragon is established in actual gameplay, affecting real accessibility
